ABOUT
LET VENICE LIVE

WHO WE ARE

Let Venice Live is a rallying cry for change created by the Ad hoc Committee of Tourists for Venice, an informal group including Journalist Neal E. Robbins and Blogger Brigitte Eckert. We have created the action manifesto for visitors and tourists to Venice after consultation with Venetian activists.

ABOUT THE MANIFESTO

It has been endorsed by these Venice organizations:

P.E.R. Venezia Consapevole  (Pensare Elaborare Rappresentare Venezia Città Consapevole)

Campaign for Living Venice (In support of a sustainable future for the Citizens and City of Venice)

WHERE NEXT ?

The manifesto can be a place to begin for those who care about saving Venice for today and the future.

It shows tourists can make a difference now. In future, if we tourists work together we can become a formidable consumer lobby. The powers that be — political and financial — would take note. So we ask you to join our mailing list so that the Ad hoc Committee can let you know when and how to show your support.

The complex issues faced by Venice need solutions forged by the Venetians, the Italian people and state. Venetians themselves are working hard against resistance from entrenched interests and lobbies. They need a hand and that is where a your support can become critical. When opportunities arise to exert pressure in support of Venice, the Ad hoc committee will be among those to spread the word through its mailing list and by other means.

We are carefully following the plans to support Venice. At present, the focus is on the Venice opposition parties. In April 2021 they jointly set out a ‘Recovery Plan for Venice’. It aims to influence the way the government uses the €200 billion earmaked for Italy from the European Union to relaunch Italy after the pandemic. The opposition’s recovery plan is described as a ‘unique occasion’ to raise funds change approaches in contrast to the ‘inadequate’ approach set out by Venice city and the region of Veneto. We will be putting our voice behind this effort and will keep our readers informed about what they can do. For details and further information (In Italian only for now) see the summary in Venice Today.
